Benzodiazepines — often prescribed to treat anxiety, insomnia, or panic disorders — can quietly shift from helpful to harmful. Medications like Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and Ativan are meant for short-term relief, but prolonged use can lead to physical dependence and emotional instability that’s difficult to break without help.
At The Carter Treatment Center, we help individuals across the metro Atlanta area safely and compassionately recover from benzodiazepine addiction. Our addiction treatment programs combine medical oversight, therapy, and holistic healing to restore calm, balance, and confidence — without relying on medication to cope.
It’s okay if you’re nervous — we’ll guide you through every step.
Calling us isn’t about commitment; it’s about clarity. When you reach out to The Carter Treatment Center, you’ll speak with a compassionate admissions specialist — someone who listens, not judges. We’ll help you understand your options, verify your insurance, and create a plan that feels safe and doable.
No pressure. No shame. Just understanding, information, and the next right step.
The hardest part is reaching out — give us a call at (470) 616-7274 – once you do, you won’t have to face this alone anymore.
Benzodiazepines work by calming the nervous system — slowing brain activity to ease anxiety or help with sleep. Over time, the brain begins to rely on these medications to function normally. When use stops suddenly or doses are reduced too quickly, painful withdrawal symptoms like panic attacks, tremors, and insomnia can occur.
What starts as a way to feel in control can turn into dependency that feels impossible to manage alone. Our goal is to help clients taper safely, learn healthy coping strategies, and build lasting stability without the need for benzodiazepines.
Coming off benzodiazepines must be done with care. Stopping “cold turkey” can be dangerous and lead to severe withdrawal symptoms — even seizures. At The Carter Treatment Center, we coordinate safe, medically supported tapers to help you reduce dependence at a pace that respects your health and comfort.
Our clinical team works with each client to:
Recovery isn’t just about stopping use — it’s about teaching the brain and body how to feel safe again without medication.
We use a blend of evidence-based and holistic therapies that treat both the physical and emotional roots of addiction. Each client receives a personalized treatment plan shaped around their goals, background, and progress.
Your plan may include:
Our focus isn’t just on withdrawal — it’s on rebuilding a peaceful, sustainable life beyond medication.
Recovery from benzodiazepine addiction takes time, structure, and support. That’s why The Carter Treatment Center offers multiple levels of care — each designed to meet you exactly where you are in your journey. From early stabilization to long-term maintenance, our goal is to help you heal safely and confidently at your own pace.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program provides the highest level of outpatient support — a structured, full-day schedule that includes clinical supervision, group and individual therapy, and holistic wellness sessions. This program is ideal for clients who need close monitoring during the early stages of tapering or withdrawal but prefer the comfort of returning home at night.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program offers flexible scheduling with several hours of therapy on multiple days per week. It’s a strong next step after PHP or a starting point for those with stable physical health who still need consistent structure, accountability, and therapeutic support. IOP helps you rebuild your daily routine while maintaining focus on recovery.
Our Outpatient Program is designed for ongoing recovery and relapse prevention. Clients attend regular therapy sessions, check-ins, and support groups while re-engaging with family, work, or school. This stage focuses on reinforcing healthy coping mechanisms and building lasting confidence in sobriety.
For individuals beginning to notice increased dependence or early misuse of benzodiazepines, our Early Intervention Program offers education, counseling, and prevention-focused support. It helps identify triggers early, strengthen emotional awareness, and reduce the risk of addiction before it develops.
Every level of care is connected — allowing you to step down gradually while maintaining safety, stability, and support every step of the way.
Benzodiazepine misuse is a growing concern in Georgia, especially when mixed with opioids or alcohol.

Our Treatment Centers:
Benzodiazepines — often prescribed under names like Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and Ativan — are medications used to manage anxiety, panic attacks, or insomnia. Over time, the body can become dependent on them, requiring higher doses to feel the same effects. This can lead to physical and emotional withdrawal when the medication is reduced or stopped.
Yes. Quitting “cold turkey” can cause serious withdrawal symptoms, including panic attacks, seizures, and insomnia. That’s why The Carter Treatment Center provides clinically guided tapering — a gradual reduction under medical supervision that allows your body and brain to safely adjust.
Withdrawal varies depending on the medication, dosage, and how long you’ve been taking it. Acute symptoms often begin within a few days and can last several weeks. Some individuals experience mild anxiety or sleep issues for a longer period. Our team creates a customized taper and therapy plan to support you through every stage of recovery.
Yes. Many people successfully recover through structured outpatient programs like our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). These options offer daily or near-daily clinical support while allowing you to live at home and maintain family or work responsibilities.
Absolutely. Our approach combines CBT, DBT, and holistic therapies such as mindfulness, yoga, and EMDR to help clients manage anxiety, improve sleep, and restore emotional balance without dependence on medication.
We focus on long-term recovery skills — including emotional regulation, relapse prevention education, and ongoing therapy — to help clients stay stable and confident post-treatment. Many also benefit from continued outpatient sessions or alumni support groups for added accountability.
Yes. Every aspect of your care at The Carter Treatment Center is completely confidential and HIPAA-compliant. We value your privacy and treat every client with compassion, respect, and discretion.
